About the Artwork

This dachshund has clearly accepted its fate. Only the head and two front paws make it over the rim of the clawfoot tub, and balanced on top sits a tall, curling swirl of bath foam in mint, cream and tangerine. Those big brown eyes look straight at you, a little patient and a little put out.

Abby Sutton painted it in her contemporary pop art style, with bold black outlines, thick visible brushwork and a split background of bubblegum pink and sunny yellow. The dog's coat is built from layered russet and chocolate strokes, and the tub is a loose mix of blue, cream and soft aqua that keeps the whole piece feeling playful.

This dog in bathtub wall art is made for dachshund owners, anyone who has wrestled a wet pup into the bath, and people who like their bathroom wall decor with a sense of humor. It makes an easy gift for a dog lover setting up a new home.

As canvas wall art, it brings color to a guest bath, a kids' bathroom or a laundry room. It works well as modern bathroom wall art above a towel bar, and it is just as charming as powder room wall art where visitors will catch it and smile. Pair it with others from the series for a full wall of bathroom canvas wall art.

I paint in a converted garage on the east side of Columbus, with sneaker boxes stacked as shelves. Years managing stock at a sneaker store taught me how a single colorway can make someone stop mid-aisle. My pop-art canvases start with flat fields of hot pink, lemon and orange, then I lock every shape down with crisp black paint-pen outlines until the whole thing snaps.
