A lone basalt sea stack stands offshore while a storm surge slams into its side and throws spray high into the dark air. Graham Delaney built this stormy ocean wall art with a palette knife, laying the paint on thick so the rock reads as stacked, chiseled facets of olive, charcoal and rust.

The water is where the knife really moves. Curling teal and deep blue swells break into ridges of white foam, and the burst of spray against the stack feels sharp and sudden. Overhead, heavy charcoal clouds part just enough for a smear of copper light, and a jagged shoreline cuts into the lower corner.
