About the Artwork

A narrow ribbon of water drops straight down through a deep forest gorge, and it's the only bright thing in the whole scene. Maren Hollis built this dark green wall art with a palette knife, laying moss, olive and shadowed brown in thick, blocky strokes that read like layered rock walls. Mist lifts off the plunge pool, and a few rust-colored leaves catch the light in the foreground.

The impasto texture is what makes it. Each knife stroke sits on the surface like a little slab of stone, so the cliffs feel heavy and wet while the falling water stays smooth and pale. The teal pool fades into warm brown shallows, pulling your eye from the top of the falls all the way to your feet.

This is for anyone who loves dark moody wall art that still feels alive, the quiet green of a forest after rain rather than something gloomy. If you collect dark moody art prints or lean toward a dark aesthetic wall decor look, this one fits right in with deep paint colors, wood and leather.

As canvas wall art, it works as moody wall art for living room spaces above a sofa or console, and it makes calm dark wall art for bedroom walls where you want something restful to look at. Hang it where the light is soft and let the waterfall do the glowing.

Working with patients taught me to see healing in unexpected places. I started painting scripture verses as gifts for my church family in 2019, but the abstract backgrounds began taking over the canvases. Now those color fields tell their own stories.
