About the Artwork

This one looks right at you. Isla Penrose painted a dachshund from the chest up, head tilted slightly toward the viewer, long ears falling back and catching a soft light from above. The dark eyes have that bright, patient look every owner knows, and the muzzle is built up in thick palette knife ridges you can almost run a finger along.

The palette is kept to black, charcoal, silver gray and a few warm tan touches around the brows and chin. Behind the dog, the background is scraped and dragged in pale grays and off-white, so the whole wiener dog painting reads like a study in texture as much as a portrait.

It's made for anyone who has shared a couch with a doxie and knows that stare. As dachshund wall decor, it suits a longtime breed fan, a new puppy household, or someone remembering a dog who sat exactly like this. A thoughtful choice for doxie art collectors who prefer something quieter than bright color.

The neutral tones make this canvas wall art easy to place in a living room, a hallway, a home office or above a dog bed by the door. It pairs well with black frames, warm wood and gray walls, and holds its own as a single dachshund art print or next to other pet portraits.

Working nights at the shipyard in 2019, I started sketching the stray cats that hung around the docks. Those rough charcoal drawings of weathered toms and shy calicos became my first real paintings when I traded my torch for brushes.
