About the Artwork

Some dogs fetch a stick. This one fetched a whole branch and refuses to apologize. Landon Wells painted a black and tan dachshund trotting straight at you, a long knobby stick clamped crosswise in its mouth, stretching well past both floppy ears. The ears bounce, the tail is up, and the brown eyes say this was entirely the plan.

This wiener dog painting is done in a contemporary pop art style, with bold black outlines, a flat coral sky, a soft sage green floor and a cream sun sitting behind the dog like a spotlight. A few quick strokes of cobalt blue make the shadow under those short legs, and the fur is built up in fine dark lines with warm tan markings on the brows, muzzle and paws.

It is dachshund decor for anyone who has lived with a doxie and knows that stubborn, proud little strut. A good pick for doxie art collectors, new puppy owners, or a friend who talks about their sausage dog more than their kids.

As canvas wall art, it brings color and a grin to an entryway, a mudroom by the leash hook, a home office or a kid's room. Pair it with other wiener dog wall art or let it stand alone as the one dog canvas wall art piece everyone asks about.

The first choice on a new canvas is always the color that surprises me. Desert color did that on the sunset tours I led through the Arizona desert in 2015. It shifted without warning. Watching tourists see something beautiful for the first time reminded me why I sketched landscapes as a kid. That first look is what I'm after.
