Contemporary Abstract Painting of Canyon Strata - Canvas Wall Art

Dexter Vaughn built this contemporary abstract painting the way a canyon builds itself, one layer at a time. Thick horizontal bands of burnt crimson, golden amber, dusky violet and deep teal sweep across the canvas, pressed down with a palette knife and then scraped back so older colors peek through. Thin drips run down from the edges of the strokes like water working through rock.

It reads as abstract landscape wall art without spelling anything out. Up close you get ridges of paint, cracked cream passages and little streaks of turquoise. Step back and it turns into sediment, sunset and stone. As an original abstract painting reproduced on canvas, it keeps that heavy, physical feel, making it true textured abstract wall art in spirit.

This one is for people who like color with some grit to it. If you're drawn to desert road trips, warm earth tones or art that rewards a second and third look, it fits right in. It works well as large abstract canvas art for anyone who wants a single piece to carry a room.

The wide format makes it natural long horizontal wall art over a sofa, a console or a low credenza. It's also a strong pick as large wall art for dining room walls, where its warm reds and golds come alive under evening light. Hang it big and it holds its own like an oversized abstract painting, giving you textured canvas wall art with real presence.
