About the Artwork

This golden retriever sits square to the viewer, chest out, mouth open in that easy grin every retriever owner knows. Dexter Vaughn built the coat from thick, knife-laid strokes of gold and amber, then slipped in flashes of magenta, plum and teal so the fur seems to catch light from every direction.

Behind the dog, vertical drags of turquoise, tangerine, rose and cream run down the canvas, with drips and fine paint threads crossing the surface. The floor dissolves into puddled reflections of the same colors, so the dog looks grounded and glowing at once. It's loose and energetic, but the eyes and nose are painted with care, and that keeps the whole piece warm and personal.

Made for anyone looking for modern dog art that feels like a portrait of a friend rather than a breed chart. Golden retriever owners, families who just lost a good dog, or anyone who wants a dose of color and good humor on the wall will find something to love here.

This canvas wall art brightens a living room, a mudroom by the leash hooks, a kid's bedroom or a home office that needs a cheerful face. It pairs well with white or gray walls, warm wood and bold textiles, and holds its own as a single statement piece.

Working cruise ships for six years gave me access to coastlines most people never see. The way morning light hit different ports from Santorini to Alaska taught me more about color than any classroom could have.
