About the Artwork

Two forces meet in the middle of this piece. From the left, thick horizontal slabs of black paint push in, laid down with a palette knife so each stroke keeps its raised edge. From the right, heavy ivory and pale grey slabs press back, and where they collide the paint buckles into ridged, folded grey.

Sutton Hale built this contemporary black and white wall art from layered impasto over a soft warm-grey ground. Below the collision, thin drips of black, cream and slate run down the canvas, adding a quiet vertical rhythm under all that horizontal weight. The texture reads clearly even from across the room.

It suits anyone who likes monochrome abstract wall art with real physical presence, the kind of piece that rewards a closer look at every ridge and seam. It is calm in color but full of tension in form, a sophisticated choice for neutral, modern spaces.

Hang this canvas wall art above a sofa, behind a desk as modern office wall art, or in a hallway with gray, black or wood tones. It pairs easily with other pieces from the Black and White Abstracts collection.

After tearing my ACL ended my college hockey career in 2015, I picked up painting during rehab. Started with still lifes of my old equipment, then moved into capturing the motion and energy I missed from competitive sports.
