About the Artwork

One big cup of black coffee, sitting on its saucer like it owns the morning. Maren Hollis built this coffee cup painting with a palette knife, laying down thick slabs of cream, peach, sand and lilac so the cup looks pieced together from paint. The coffee itself is a dark, glossy pool with a ring of crema around the edge, and a single curl of steam is scraped right into the teal background.

The colors are what make it. Soft turquoise behind, coral strokes breaking through, and a band of deep violet under the saucer that grounds the whole thing. You can follow every ridge and edge of the knife, which gives the surface real texture even as a print.

It's for the person whose day doesn't start until the first cup is poured, the one who would hang but first coffee wall art if it looked this good. It also suits anyone who loves bold, hands-on painting and wants something cheerful without a slogan.

Hang this canvas wall art above a coffee station, in a breakfast nook, or in a bright kitchen where the pastels can pick up morning light. It holds its own as a single piece and fits in nicely next to framed coffee wall art in a gallery grouping.

Working with patients taught me to see healing in unexpected places. I started painting scripture verses as gifts for my church family in 2019, but the abstract backgrounds began taking over the canvases. Now those color fields tell their own stories.
