About the Artwork

A coastal salt marsh runs flat all the way to the horizon, and one teal tidal creek takes its time getting there, bending in a slow S-curve through the cordgrass. The sun sits low on the right, and its gold light breaks up on the water in thick peach and cream flecks.

Sylvie Aldridge built this one with a palette knife, laying the paint on heavy. You can see every ridge in the sky, the flat sweeps of turquoise in the creek, and the short upward strokes of sage and olive grass with little sparks of rust and yellow tucked in.
