About the Artwork

One long branch enters from the left edge and stretches nearly across the whole canvas, heavy with open five-petal blossoms, tight buds and a few new green leaves. Valerie Ashby built each petal from a single thick slab of paint laid down with the knife, so the blush, rose and cream flowers sit up off the surface and catch the light.
