About the Artwork

This candlelight painting by Maren Hollis settles on a quiet corner of an old wooden writing desk. An open book lies with its blank pages fanned, a round cream teapot with a single rust stripe waits beside it, and one lit candle in a brass holder throws a small amber glow against the wall while dusk turns the rest of the room deep blue.

Maren built every surface with a palette knife, laying thick, flat strokes of paint that catch the light like chips of plaster. The pages look stacked and slightly worn, the desk top shines in warm browns, and the shadows break into navy and slate patches. It's moody wall art that still feels gentle.

It's made for readers, letter writers and anyone who loves bookish decor with a little dark academia wall art mood. If your favorite hour is the one when the lamps aren't on yet and the tea is still warm, this one will feel familiar.

Hang this canvas wall art above a reading chair, over a desk in a study, or along a hallway full of shelves as home library decor. It brings cozy wall art warmth to a bedroom or den, and the deep blues and browns sit easily with wood furniture and leather.

Working with patients taught me to see healing in unexpected places. I started painting scripture verses as gifts for my church family in 2019, but the abstract backgrounds began taking over the canvases. Now those color fields tell their own stories.
