About the Artwork

Two butterflies drift over a loose patch of cosmos, one lilac fading into sky blue, the other a cooler powder blue with lavender tips. Below them, blush and cream petals open around little golden centers, and thin stems lean every which way, the way real cosmos do in a breeze.

Tahlia Emerson paints in a soft contemporary impressionist style, and you can see the knife and brush work everywhere. Pale sand and cream are pulled across the background in broad strokes, a faint line of surf sits on the horizon, and the sky is layered in chalky gray-blue and warm ivory. It reads as a whimsical butterfly painting without tipping into cartoon.

As butterfly nursery decor, it's calm enough for a room where someone small is falling asleep, and grown-up enough to stay when that room changes. It works as floral nursery wall art for a girl's or neutral space, and it suits anyone who likes blue butterfly wall art that feels quiet rather than loud.

Hang this canvas wall art above a crib, a changing table, or a reading chair. The sandy palette also sits nicely in a bathroom, a guest bedroom, or a sunny hallway with white trim and light wood.

Working oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico for six years taught me about horizons and endless skies. When I moved back to California in 2019, I started capturing those vast spaces and bold colors I remembered from both the ocean and my childhood trips to Guadalajara with my family.
