I paint in a former feed store in Athens, Ohio, surrounded by rolling hills and old brickworks. Running a kiln taught me how heat changes clay and how warmth can live in a color long after the fire is out. I brush kiln-warm clays and faded sage onto a chalky cream ground, keeping the shapes rounded and calm so the surface feels gently fired.
