About the Artwork

This is where the set begins. Sloane Whitaker laid down heavy slabs of navy with a palette knife, one over the next, until the lower half reads like stacked rock strata. Above them a lighter cobalt plane rises, then the paint breaks into cream and pale blue ridges that catch the light along every edge.

Look closely at the middle seam and you'll find a thin sliver of burnt orange pressed into the paint, the only warm note in the whole panel. That small heat is what keeps this blue triptych wall art from going cold, and it carries over as a thread into the two panels that follow.

It's for anyone who likes blue abstract wall art with real texture, the kind of contemporary abstract painting where you can see exactly how the knife moved. If you've been looking for navy and white canvas art that feels calm but not flat, this one earns its place.

Hang it with its two companions in a row as master bedroom wall art above the bed, or along a long wall as blue dining room wall art. On its own, this canvas wall art panel also works in a narrow spot by a window, where the raised ridges throw small shadows through the day.

Working nights at downtown hotels, I'd sketch the stray cats that gathered by the loading dock during my breaks. Those rough drawings became my first real paintings when I finally had time during the day.
