About the Artwork

Paul Kessler pulled one long band of slate blue across a quiet oatmeal ground and let the brush do the rest. The bristles ran dry toward the ends, so the top and bottom edges break into fine feathered lines. Below it sits a much narrower stroke, oatmeal laid over linen, with a hairline of rust catching along its edge.

This blue and beige wall art reads as an abstract horizon painting without spelling anything out. You can see water meeting sand, or just two marks resting in a lot of open space. The surface keeps faint scuffs and a soft plaster-like texture, so it never feels flat.

It suits someone who likes neutral coastal wall art but wants something calmer than shells and sailboats. If you've been collecting dusty blue wall art or coastal abstract wall art, this one brings that same muted palette with a painter's hand in every stroke.

Hang this canvas wall art over a linen sofa, above a low bed, or in a hallway where the long horizontal line can stretch out. It pairs well with pale oak, white walls, and stoneware, and it holds its own on a wide wall without crowding the room.

One stroke of soft charcoal gray per canvas, no more. Fifteen years reading X-rays proved how much form sits in pale, quiet tones. I keep my oil washes thin, on lightly primed canvas, and leave wide fields empty for the eye to rest. Outside my cabin studio at the edge of Asheville, ridges fade into blue haze each afternoon.

It looks amazing!

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
