About the Artwork

Stand at the base of two towers and tip your head back. That is the view Daniela Ochoa painted here. Dark glass facades rise on both sides, their window grids pulling inward until they nearly meet around a narrow ribbon of pale sky. Shorter buildings crowd the far end of the street and add depth to the climb.

This is black and white city wall art built with a palette knife. The sky is laid on in thick, ridged slabs of off-white, while the buildings carry crisp edges, glossy charcoal panes and worn cream stone on the right. The texture catches light, so the piece shifts as you walk past it.

It suits anyone who loves the energy of a downtown street, from city dwellers to people who miss one. If you are gathering black and white wall decor or modern black and white wall art for a graphic, pared back home, this one brings strong lines and a sense of height.

Hang this black and white canvas wall art in a living room, office or entry where its vertical pull can draw the eye up. It works well as large black and white wall art over a sofa or desk, and pairs easily with other black and white canvas prints in a gallery grouping.

Most of a scene stays out of my paintings, except one shape strong enough to carry the mood. Teaching calligraphy proved that a single confident stroke can do it. In my casita behind my family's house in Tucson, under a mesquite tree, I load each brush once for ink-deep blacks and slate grays. An ivory glaze softens the edges.

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
