About the Artwork
This white orchid painting follows a single dark stem as it rises from a cluster of broad leaves and bends into a long spray of phalaenopsis blooms. Derek Holt built each petal with thick palette knife strokes, so the ridges catch the light, and a thin line of metallic gold sits on every lip and along the leaf edges. It's a palette knife flower painting with real texture you can see from across the room.
Behind the flowers, streaks of charcoal, black and soft gray run down the canvas like rain on old wood, with a few brushed patches of gold near the top. It reads as a black and white flower painting with just enough warmth to keep it from feeling cold, and the tight buds at the end of the stem give the spray a sense of movement.
It's for anyone who loves moody floral wall art but wants something calm and grown-up rather than dark. If you collect black and white botanical prints or want neutral floral wall art that still has presence, this one fits right in, and it pairs well with other black and white flower wall art in a grouping.
Hang this black and white canvas wall art above a gray sofa, a dark wood dresser, or a bed with crisp white linens. The tall format suits a narrow wall in an entry or a hallway, and the gold details look lovely next to brass lamps or frames.

Materials & Craft
Printed and hand-stretched in the USA, then shipped ready to hang.
I paint in a former machine shop on Chicago's West Side, with big windows that throw hard light across wet paint. Years as a concrete finisher taught me how a steel trowel can push, drag and leave a surface alive. I work only in black, white and greys with a palette knife, building thick ridges, scraping back edges and letting thin drips run down loose backgrounds.
This canvas exceeded my expectations. The lion and its reflection are beautifully captured, and the quality of the print is superb. It adds a strong, motivational vibe to my room. I get compliments on it all the time!
Thrilled with the quality, the colors and the prompt delivery. Very impressed with this beautiful artwork! Just what this space needed! Will definitely do business with this company again! My clients loved it!! Thank you!!
