About the Artwork

This river otter has figured out bath time better than most of us. It floats belly-up in an oval tub, front paws folded neatly on its chest, whiskers relaxed, tail trailing toward the edge of the canvas. Esme Lowell painted it in her splash watercolor style, with deep teal water swirling in soft rings around the otter and warm brown and ochre fur catching the light.

Behind the tub, loose bursts of purple, sage, mustard, and blue spill and drip across a cream background. The splatters give the piece movement and a little mischief, while the otter stays calm in the middle of it all. It's a cheerful take on animals in bathtub wall art that still feels like a real painting.

It's made for anyone who loves otters, animal humor, or a bathroom that doesn't take itself too seriously. It also makes an easy gift for a friend who treats a long soak as a sacred ritual. This canvas wall art brings a smile without shouting for attention.

Hang it above the tub or beside the vanity as bathroom wall decor that ties together blues and warm neutrals. It works as bathroom canvas wall art in a family bath, as powder room wall art for guests to discover, or as modern bathroom wall art next to white tile and brushed fixtures.

Working night shifts at the hospital for eight years, I'd come home at dawn and start sketching what I'd seen in the dark hallways. The precision required in radiology taught me to look closer at everything, including the way paint moves across canvas.
