About the Artwork

This abstract seascape painting by Silas Merrick puts you right at the edge of an open sea as a storm rolls in. Heavy navy clouds drip down in long vertical streaks, and just beneath them a thin band of metallic gold light cuts straight across the horizon. Below, the water heaves in teal, ivory and touches of plum.

Silas builds the waves with thick palette knife strokes, so the foam crests catch the light and the surface reads like real canvas wall art with texture you can almost feel. It's a textured canvas wall art piece that sits between landscape and abstraction: you know it's the ocean, but the color and movement do most of the talking.

It's for anyone who loves the sea in its moodier moments, and for people who want blue abstract wall art with some weight and warmth to it rather than something cool and flat. The gold seam keeps the darker sky from feeling heavy.

The wide format makes it a natural choice as long horizontal wall art over a sofa, a sideboard or a bed. It also works well as large wall art for dining room walls, where the gold horizon picks up candlelight and brass fixtures in the evening.

Running emergency calls for eight years taught me to see patterns in chaos. Started with geometric sketches during downtime at the station, and those angular forms became the foundation for everything I create now.
