About the Artwork

This abstract santa painting by Malcolm Tate catches Santa in a quiet moment. He sits in three-quarter view, head bowed and eyes lowered, hands folded at his belt. His coat is laid down in heavy knife strokes of crimson and raspberry pink, and his beard is built up in thick cream ridges you can almost feel.

Around him, the background breaks apart into sweeping black and gray strokes, a few flashes of teal, and long drips of paint running down to the bottom edge. Gold flecks scatter across his hat, cuffs, and beard, then trail off in thin metallic streaks. It reads as old world santa art handled with a loose, modern hand.

It suits anyone who wants holiday wall art with some feeling to it, the kind of Santa who looks like he's taking a breath before the long night. It makes a thoughtful gift for collectors of father christmas wall art or anyone tired of cartoon versions on christmas canvas prints.

As canvas wall art, it works well as christmas wall art for living room spaces, over a mantel, or in an entry where guests pause. The warm reds and gold sit nicely with wood, brass, and evergreen decor, making it a red christmas painting that feels at home all season.

Working night shifts at the hospital for eight years taught me to see beauty in unexpected places. The fluorescent hallways and quiet moments between emergencies became my first subjects. Now I translate those memories of exhaustion and hope into abstract forms that feel both heavy and weightless.
