About the Artwork

Elena Vance keeps the land low and lets the sky do the talking. A thin band of ochre wheat runs along the bottom, its stalks flicked in with quick, dry strokes, while above it rolls a huge sky of slate, warm grey and creamy white. A faint blush of pink drifts through the clouds on the right, the only hint of a sun somewhere behind them.

This abstract landscape canvas art is all about layering. The clouds are built up in thick, loose brushwork that you can almost feel, and the flat horizon sits so quietly that the whole piece reads as calm rather than stormy. It works as neutral abstract wall art for anyone who likes earth tone abstract wall art with real weather in it.

It suits people who want professional wall art that doesn't shout. Think of a manager who spends long days at a desk, a counselor setting a gentle tone, or a clinic owner looking for waiting room artwork that helps visitors settle in. It's calming wall art with a sense of open space.

As large horizontal wall art, it fills the wall behind a desk or a long credenza with ease. Hang it as modern office wall art in a conference room, or as executive office wall art across from a leather chair. This canvas wall art also feels at home above a sofa in a living room with linen, wood and stone.

Layovers in Tokyo taught me about negative space in a way art school never could. After grounding myself in 2010, I found that same sense of floating suspension in abstract work. My pieces try to capture that feeling of being between destinations.
