“I paint in a small converted porch in Asheville, where the Blue Ridge fog drifts past most mornings. Twenty years as a school librarian taught me patience and the value of a quiet room. I flood the paper with clean water, drop in sage and olive, and let the hills soften on their own. A few dark marks hold the scene, and the rest I leave to mist and bare paper.”
About Lorraine
Lorraine Tisdale paints in a small converted porch in Asheville, North Carolina, where Blue Ridge fog drifts past the windows most mornings. Before she painted full time, she spent twenty years as a school librarian, work that taught her patience and the value of a quiet room. She earned her BFA at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and that librarian’s calm runs through everything she makes. Her paintings are unhurried, attentive, and content to let a scene speak softly.
Working in granulating watercolor on cold-pressed cotton paper, Lorraine floods the sheet with clean water, drops in sage and olive, and lets the hills soften on their own. A few dark marks anchor each scene, and the rest she leaves to mist and bare paper, a gentle impressionism that captures mountain mornings as they really feel. Her canvases bring a sense of quiet to bedrooms, reading nooks, and home offices, and their muted greens settle easily into living rooms and entryways with natural wood and linen. Below are Tisdale’s canvases in our shop, ready to hang.
