About Cole

Cole Whitman worked cattle in Montana for fifteen years, a job that rewards patience and a careful eye. After moving east in 2010, Whitman began painting the wildlife missed from those wide prairie mornings. The artist holds a BA in Fine Arts from Boston University and works in Charleston, West Virginia.

Visible brushwork and soft blues, beiges and browns mark Whitman’s impressionist style. Animals are the whole subject. A bison stands in tall prairie grass, a doe leads three fawns down a forest path, a Highland cow ambles past rows of lavender and a tabby cat lounges belly up on a windowsill.
