“I paint in a converted net shed a few blocks from Lake Superior in Duluth. Three seasons cooking on a freighter taught me to work fast with whatever was on board and to read the water's moods. I flood the paper with cold blues, let them pool and bleed, then flick berry and saffron in sudden bursts before anything dries.”
