About the Artwork

Esme Rowan painted this red fox mid-trot, side on, with its ears up and its eyes fixed on something ahead. The coat is built up in warm rust and ginger with a soft white chest, and the bushy tail streams back into dark gray and a bright white tip. Around it, wide palette-knife strokes of cream and pale teal leave a rough, layered surface you can almost feel.

Below the fox, the ground gives way to color. Bands of teal, burnt orange and a touch of berry red run straight down the canvas in long drips, threaded with fine lines of gold. It reads as an abstract fox art piece where the animal stays sharp and the rest melts into paint, a balance that makes this abstract fox painting feel both grounded and loose.

It suits anyone who loves wildlife but wants something with more movement than a field guide portrait. If you have been looking at fox art prints and finding them too sweet or too stiff, this one has the energy and the texture to hold its own.

As canvas wall art, it works well above a sofa, in an entryway, or along a hallway where people pass by and catch the fox in motion. The cream background keeps it light, while the teal and orange tie in easily with warm wood, leather and green plants.

Working with tiny silver clasps for years taught me precision, but I craved something larger. Moving to Vermont in 2019, the mountain light pulled me toward painting. I love how abstract forms can hold the same emotional weight as a perfectly crafted ring.
