About the Artwork

A big orange sun sinks behind the hills, and the whole harbor answers back in color. Marco Bellandi stacks pink, saffron, sky blue and slate gray houses along a narrow canal, their red roofs catching the last light, while a row of small wooden boats waits on the water below.

This is sorrento art painted with a palette knife and plenty of nerve. You can see the thick ridges of paint in the sky, the dragged reflections of yellow and red in the teal water, and fine raised lines that swirl across the scene like evening wind. It reads as a place you remember more than a place you mapped.

It suits anyone who has wandered a southern Italian waterfront at dusk, or anyone who just wants that feeling at home. It's a fitting gift for travelers, honeymooners and people who love bold, saturated color with a handmade texture.

As canvas wall art, it brings warmth to a living room, a dining area or an entry hall that needs a lift. The tall format works well above a console or a narrow sideboard, and the orange and blue tones pair easily with wood, white walls or deep navy accents.

I spent fifteen winters scraping and varnishing wooden boats in the yards of Camogli, and learned how a blade spreads a thick coat and catches the light. Today the knife does the painting: the stacked houses of the Cinque Terre, harbours at sunset, a lemon or a tray of sardines, laid on in heavy ridges you can almost touch.

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
