About the Artwork

This snowy landscape painting by Ines Arellano follows a frozen creek as it bends in a soft S-curve from your feet into the morning haze. Slender white birches stand on both banks, their dark bark marks catching the pale light, while fresh snow mounds along the water's edge in thick, buttery strokes.

Ines paints in a soft contemporary impressionist style, and you can see it in the creek itself, laid down as small tiles of blue, gray and blush that read as reflected sky. A few red berries on bare twigs in the foreground add a quiet spark of warmth. It's an impressionist winter painting that feels calm rather than cold.

It's made for anyone who loves a hushed walk in the woods after a snowfall, or who wants birch tree wall art that feels gentle and lived-in. It works as winter wall art all season and sits easily alongside holiday wall art in December without shouting Christmas.

Hang this canvas wall art above a sofa, a bed or a fireplace mantel, where the winding creek can pull the eye into the room's quietest corner. Its cream, soft gray and muted sage tones suit Scandinavian, farmhouse and modern spaces alike.

The bay is a few blocks from my small garage studio in San Diego, and the coast gives me soft mornings and garden light. Arranging stems as a florist made clear how much quiet space a composition needs. So I keep things airy. Layered brushwork, a little knife work, hushed colors, and a painting that sits calmly in a room.
