About the Artwork

A young impala fawn stands perfectly still, ears spread wide and dark-tipped, looking straight at you with a gentle, curious face. Eric Thornton painted it with fine, patient brushwork in warm tan and cream, down to the soft white belly, the slim legs and the small dark hooves. A light gray shadow grounds it, and the rest is open, textured off-white plaster.

This is scandinavian nursery wall art in the truest sense: one quiet animal, lots of breathing room, and a palette that stays calm. It works as nursery wall art safari fans will love without leaning on bright jungle colors, and it sits easily beside other safari animal nursery prints in the series.

It's a thoughtful pick for parents planning a gender neutral nursery wall art scheme, grandparents looking for a keepsake, or anyone who prefers nursery animal wall art that feels grown-up enough to stay on the wall for years.

Hang it above a crib, a changing table or a reading chair, where the fawn's soft gaze can meet a little one at eye level. As canvas wall art, it pairs well with light wood, linen and white walls, and fits naturally into neutral safari nursery decor.

My studio sits above a frame shop in northeast Minneapolis, and in winter the snow outside does half my thinking for me. Eight years as a cabinetmaker taught me to sand until nothing extra remains. I paint matte acrylic in birch, ash and fog tones, letting two or three soft blocks of colour meet along one careful edge, then leaving the rest of the canvas alone.
