About the Artwork

This santa claus portrait painting catches him in a quiet moment, turned to the right with a faint smile and his eyes on something just out of frame. The tip of his red hat falls behind his head, the cream trim is laid on thick with a palette knife, and his long white beard is built from heavy, ridged strokes you can almost feel.

Silas Merrick paints in a textured semi-abstract style. The face is careful and warm, while everything around it loosens into sweeping night-blue and teal brushwork. Thin runs of metallic gold drip down through the beard and coat, and violet and crimson streaks bleed into a pale cream ground. It reads as old world santa art with a modern hand.

It suits anyone who wants their Christmas decor to feel like a real painting rather than a greeting card. Collectors of father christmas wall art, families who keep a red and white palette for the season, and anyone drawn to texture and gold accents will find a lot to look at here.

As canvas wall art, it works above a mantel, in an entryway, or as the centerpiece of your christmas wall art for living room spaces. The blues keep it cool enough to stay up as winter wall art well after the gifts are opened.

When I choose what to paint, I look for the pattern hiding inside the chaos. Eight years of running emergency calls trained my eye for that. It started with geometric sketches during downtime at the station. Those angular forms stuck. Now every piece I make is built on them, sharp lines pulling against the curves.
