About the Artwork

A quiet corner of an old movie house, painted the way we remember them. Amanda Kerr gives the awning bold red and cream stripes with a scalloped edge, and hand-brushes the word Matinee across the front valance in soft black. Below it, a little wheeled popcorn cart waits by the wall, its glass case filled with kernels that glow gold against the cream plaster.

This popcorn cart painting comes from our Vintage Movie Marquee collection, done in a mid-century painted style with flat afternoon light, long clean shadows and a navy base trim that grounds the whole scene. It's simple and calm, with the warmth of a Saturday afternoon show and none of the clutter.

It's for the person who still loves the smell of fresh popcorn before the lights go down, the collector of nostalgic wall art, and anyone who wants a bit of americana wall art that feels gentle rather than loud. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a film buff.

Hang this canvas wall art in a home theater, a movie room or a cinema room, where it sets the tone for every movie night. It works nicely as home theater decor beside a snack bar or in a game room hallway, and the cream, red and navy palette fits easily with warm woods and modern furniture alike.

One rule: the brush texture stays in. Every stroke of pale aqua, soft tangerine and lemon cream goes down flat and confident, and I leave it alone. The low rooflines outside my breezeway studio in Palm Springs feed the palm fronds, pools and kidney-shaped forms I paint. Staging homes for sale proved one good piece can wake up a whole room.
