About the Artwork

Paola Medina built this piece the way you'd skim a wall. A tall sand rectangle sits on a bone ground, laid down in thick, trowelled strokes that ridge and overlap like fresh plaster. Soft gray drags through the middle, a smudge of gray settles below the bottom corner, and along the right edge a terracotta dust shadow warms the whole thing. It's plaster texture wall art that rewards a slow look.

The appeal is in the restraint. This is wabi sabi wall art at heart: uneven edges, visible knife marks, a surface that looks touched rather than perfected. As a neutral abstract painting, it brings depth through texture instead of color, so the sand and taupe tones never feel flat.

It suits anyone drawn to quiet rooms, natural materials and japandi wall art that doesn't shout. If you've been searching for textured abstract wall art or beige abstract wall art that still has a bit of warmth, the clay shadow gives it exactly that.

Hang it above a linen sofa, a low oak console or a bed with stone-colored bedding, where this taupe wall art can blend with soft walls. It also works as serene wall art in an entry, or as minimalist bathroom wall art beside plaster, tile and brass. Printed as minimalist canvas wall art, it keeps the calm of the original surface.

My studio is a small room with high ceilings in the Colonia Americana neighborhood of Guadalajara. Teaching yoga for years taught me about breath, balance and the beauty of slowing down. I mix acrylic with fine marble dust for a soft, chalky surface, then paint one arch, a circle or a low horizon in warm sand and bone tones, leaving the rest open and calm.
