About the Artwork

Jessica Hartley painted a wide black arch standing right on the ground line, its thick strokes laid down in a few confident passes so you can still see the brush drag at the edges. Inside the cream opening, three flattened pebbles balance in a slightly tilted stack: black at the bottom, soft pale grey in the middle, bone white on top.
