About the Artwork

Three pampas plumes lie loose across a plain plaster ledge, their long stems crossing at the left and their feathery heads fanning out to the right. Two are soft sand, one is a warm rust, and the lowest rests flat in pale cream, casting a gentle shadow on the shelf below.

I paint in a shared studio along a canal in Utrecht, surrounded by grasses drying upside down. Working as a florist taught me to look at the curve of a single stem and leave space around it. I build my canvases with marble dust and matte acrylic, then place soft rainbow bands, leaf shapes and pampas plumes in blush, terracotta and sand on a cream ground.
