About the Artwork

Dean Whitacre stacks six tall, rounded hills on top of each other like folded fabric, each one a soft scallop of color climbing toward a small mustard sun. You can see his brush moving in slow arcs through every hill, so the ridges almost ripple. Sage, dusty pink, honey, sand and a deep rust sit together like an old blanket left on a cream linen ground.

This scalloped hills painting is earthy wall art with a quiet sense of humor about shape. The terracotta wall art corner at the bottom right anchors the whole thing, while the pale beige hills let the eye rest. It reads as boho sun wall art without any rays or fuss, just one round dot of warmth above the hills.

It suits anyone drawn to wabi sabi wall art and its love of imperfect, hand-made texture, and anyone mixing warm boho pieces with the clean calm of japandi wall art. If your home already leans toward earth tone wall art, clay pots and natural fibers, this one will feel like it was always there.

Hang this boho canvas wall art above a linen sofa, a low wood dresser or a neutral bed where beige wall art can soften the room. It works as modern boho wall art in an entry or reading nook too, and it pairs easily with the rest of your boho wall decor.

My studio is an old cotton warehouse loft in Natchez, with walls that still shed flakes of lime plaster. Restoring courthouse murals taught me to read faded color and to build tone slowly rather than force it. I paint my boho pieces in thin, scumbled layers of chalky white, rust and mossy sage, scratching patterns back through with a palette knife until the surface feels lived in.
