About the Artwork

This neptune painting by Adrian Castellano keeps things quiet and close. A periwinkle blue sphere hangs in a hazy gray sky. A dark oval storm drifts across its southern half, and a few thin streaks of white cloud are brushed along its bands. Above it, a soft milky way painting unfolds in dusty rose, lilac and warm gold, scattered with tiny golden stars.

Adrian works in a soft contemporary impressionist style, so nothing here is sharp or clinical. You can see the brushwork in the planet's rounded shading and in the loose, feathered strokes of the background. It reads as astronomy art with a painter's hand rather than a telescope photo.

It belongs to our Solar System Planets collection, which makes it an easy pick for anyone building a set of planet prints or solar system prints. It suits stargazers, science lovers and kids who know every planet by name, and it works as celestial wall art for grown-ups who simply like a calm blue color story.

Hang this canvas wall art above a bed for space themed bedroom decor, in a reading corner, or in a home office next to a bookshelf. The muted palette also fits gentle outer space nursery decor without overpowering a small room.

I taught physics for fifteen years in Taos, New Mexico, and drew the orbits of the planets on the board every week. When I started painting, the solar system came with me, only softer: grey-lavender skies, a warm golden sun and planets laid in with a light brush. I paint them in order, one calm line at a time, the way I used to explain them to my students.
