About the Artwork

Jeffrey Walton keeps this one simple and bold. A single star sits high in a deep blue night, and from it one long column of gold light runs straight down to a tiny dark stable glowing at the door. Around that beam, the sky breaks into tall strokes of navy, slate and soft lavender, with gold drips running down the canvas like the light is still falling.

This modern nativity painting is built from heavy knife sweeps and dragged paint, so the surface feels layered and alive. Thin cracks of gold cross the ground, and a warm band of rust and sand at the bottom holds the stable in place. It reads as abstract nativity art up close and as a clear Christmas scene from across the room.

It suits anyone who wants Christian Christmas wall art that skips the busy figures and focuses on the moment itself, the star, the light and the stable. It makes a thoughtful gift for a pastor, a parent or a friend who loves the quiet side of the season and the feeling of O Holy Night wall art.

Hang this canvas wall art above a mantel, in an entry, or along a staircase where the vertical beam can carry the eye. The blues and golds sit comfortably with modern and neutral rooms, and it stands out among your Christmas canvas prints without feeling loud.

My studio sits behind my house in Scottsdale, and the desert light changes every hour I work. Before painting full time I spent years as a goldsmith, and I still love the moment metal meets color. I carve horses, birds and desert forms out of heavy knife strokes, let saturated glazes run in long drips, and burnish gold leaf into the ridges.
