About the Artwork

A blue and white jug of coral red poppies sits on a sunlit terrace wall, and below it Portofino's harbor opens up in calm blue water dotted with small white boats. The pastel houses climb along the shore, the sky fades from cornflower to haze, and the word Portofino floats across the top in loose coral script.

Francesca Neri painted this mediterranean painting for our Quiet Italy collection in her soft contemporary impressionist style. The brushwork stays visible and dry, the pinks and blues are chalky and gentle, and the dark poppy centers give the whole scene a little punch.

It suits anyone who still thinks about a summer on the Italian Riviera, or who simply loves flowers, sea views and a palette that feels like late morning light. It makes a thoughtful gift for a traveler or a new homeowner.

As canvas wall art, it brightens a breakfast nook, a coastal living room, a bedroom with white linens or an entryway that needs a warm hello. Pair it with natural wood, rattan or blue and white ceramics.

I spent eight years on scaffolds in Tuscan churches, cleaning frescoes a few square inches a day, and those faded, chalky colours never left me. I paint a quiet Italy in the same light key: a lemon branch over a lake, a white lane down to the sea, a pale sail on the Adriatic, in thin glazes that let the canvas breathe.
