About the Artwork

One poppy fills this whole canvas, and it does not hold back. Jeffrey Walton built the petals with heavy, ridged strokes of orange, rust and cream, so they look crinkled and papery the way real poppy petals do. At the center sits a green seed head ringed with dark stamens tipped in gold.

Behind the bloom, the background stays loose. Cobalt and teal paint runs down in long drips, with streaks of gold and a touch of coral, and a soft teal hill rises at the lower left. It's large floral canvas wall art that sits halfway between a botanical study and an abstract painting, which is what makes it such good modern floral wall art.

This piece is for anyone who likes their floral wall decor bold and textured rather than sweet. If you have been looking for large abstract floral wall art with real warmth, or abstract flower canvas prints that bring color without clutter, this poppy is an easy choice.

The wide format makes it a natural horizontal floral wall art piece over a sofa, a sideboard or a bed. As floral wall art for living room spaces with blue, green or warm wood tones, it ties the room together. Each print is gallery-wrapped canvas wall art, ready to hang.

My studio sits behind my house in Scottsdale, and the desert light changes every hour I work. Before painting full time I spent years as a goldsmith, and I still love the moment metal meets color. I carve horses, birds and desert forms out of heavy knife strokes, let saturated glazes run in long drips, and burnish gold leaf into the ridges.
