About the Artwork

This capybara has found its hot spring, and it happens to be a clawfoot tub. Rodrigo Salcedo painted it sunk to the chin in murky bathwater, eyes half closed, whiskers drifting just above the surface, with three gray wisps of steam curling up into a warm cream background. It is the exact look of an animal that has nowhere to be.

The style is mid-century painted, with flat shapes, visible brushwork and a soft palette of tan, rust brown and a muted teal tub resting on little golden feet. Small touches carry it, like the white highlight swiped across the porcelain and the loose brown shadow pooled under the tub.

As guest bathroom wall art, it gives visitors something to smile at, and it suits anyone who loves capybaras, long baths or a calm sense of humor. It also pairs easily with other modern bathroom wall art in the Funny Bathroom Animals collection.

Hang this canvas wall art above the towel bar, beside the vanity or over the tub itself. It works as bathroom wall decor in a full bath and as powder room wall art in a small space, where one piece of bathroom canvas wall art sets the whole mood.

Rodrigo Salcedo

I paint in a sunny upstairs studio in Guadalajara, above the street where I grew up. Before painting full time I designed glazed tiles for a family ceramics workshop, and that taught me to think in repeating shapes and quiet colour. My canvases borrow from the modernist houses of my city: soft mustard, teal and terracotta in flat planes, with arches, palms and circles brushed by hand.
