About the Artwork

This one is all about the quiet spot by the window. Wesley Danforth painted a deep cushioned seat tucked between two bookcases, a chunky cable-knit blanket folded over the edge with its fringe hanging loose. Outside the tall panes, golden and oxblood leaves drift down through a soft drizzle, and the glass blurs everything into pale gray light.

The brushwork is thick and tactile, true to his soft contemporary impressionism. You can see the knife-laid paint on the cushion, the rain streaking across the glass, and the warm brown spines lined up on the shelves. It reads as fall wall art without leaning on pumpkins or plaid, just weather, wool and books.

It's made for readers and anyone who loves bookish decor, the person who saves rainy afternoons for a novel and a blanket. As a rainy day painting it holds that calm, unhurried feeling of having nowhere else to be.

Hang this canvas wall art in a reading corner, above a bench, or as part of your home library decor. It also works in a bedroom or hallway where you want a little autumn wall art that stays soft and warm through the whole season.

Years as a sternman on a lobster boat had me reading the changing light over water at dawn. Now I work in a weathered shed behind my house in Gloucester, a few streets up from the harbor. Small, loose dabs of sand, mist and faded sea blue build each soft impressionist canvas. Contrast stays low, so the painting settles quietly.
