About the Artwork

This raccoon painting catches a masked visitor mid-inspection. He's up on his hind legs, front paws gripping the rim of a lavender pedestal sink, nose tipped toward the empty basin as if he's sure something good should be in there. Ximena Robles painted his fur in soft layers of gray, smoky violet and warm tan, with every whisker and that ringed tail picked out in fine detail.

Around him, the splash watercolor style does its work. Violet and golden ochre run down the paper behind the faucet, while bursts of magenta, green and yellow spatter and drip on the right side. The loose color against the careful animal gives the piece its energy, and the white paper keeps it bright and airy.

It's a good fit for anyone who loves backyard wildlife, has had a raccoon raid the trash once or twice, or just wants bathroom wall decor that makes guests smile. The pastel-and-rainbow palette works as modern bathroom wall art without feeling too serious.

Hang this bathroom canvas wall art above the towel bar, next to the vanity, or as the one bold piece in a small space. It also makes cheerful powder room wall art, where a curious raccoon checking out the sink feels right at home.

A painting on a wall at home should feel as easy as the bougainvillea climbing over my courtyard door in Oaxaca. Years painting alebrijes proved that a bold color only sings beside a calm one. So I wet big sheets, load the brush with magenta and jacaranda purple, and tilt the board. Mango gold spatters come last.
