About the Artwork

A lone Monterey cypress hangs on to the edge of a rocky cliff, its trunk twisted and its flattened canopy streaming sideways in the wind. Below, the sea rolls in with row after row of white-capped waves under a heavy, shifting sky.

Avery Calloway built this black and white tree wall art with a palette knife, laying down thick, flat slabs of paint that give the rocks sharp edges and the clouds a broken, layered texture. The whole scene stays in shades of charcoal, grey and white, so the shape of the tree does all the talking.

It suits anyone who loves the coast in rough weather, or who wants a piece of black and white ocean wall art with a little more grit than a calm beach scene. It's a quiet tribute to staying rooted when everything pushes the other way.

Hang this canvas wall art above a sofa, in a study, or along a hallway where the tall format can stretch out. It pairs easily with grey walls, natural wood and simple linen, and holds its own in coastal, modern or rustic rooms.

After years in restaurant kitchens, I discovered painting during a quiet October in 2019. The textures and colors I worked with in food naturally translated to canvas. Now I spend my mornings creating moody, atmospheric pieces that capture the mystery of autumn nights.
