About the Artwork

This cityscape painting catches Seattle on one of those soft, hazy days when the mountain seems to hang in the air. The Space Needle rises tall in the foreground, the downtown towers gather behind it in muted lavender and slate, and Mount Rainier spreads wide and pale across the sky, almost melting into the cream and peach haze around it.

Dwight Ambrose painted it in loose, broken strokes, the kind of soft contemporary impressionism where nothing is fussed over. The brushy meadow in front is dabbed in sage, straw and dusty blue, and the sky is all short flecks of warm light. As a Seattle skyline painting it feels less like a postcard and more like a memory of the view.

It's a natural pick for anyone who calls the Pacific Northwest home, misses it, or just loves a quiet city skyline painting with a big mountain behind it. Fans of space needle wall art who want something gentler than a photo will find a lot to like here.

As canvas wall art, its pale palette sits easily in a living room, a bright office or a bedroom with light walls and natural wood. Hang it above a sofa or desk where the soft tones can open up the space, or pair it with other skyline wall art from the collection.

Most paintings improve when you leave something out. Years as a boatyard carpenter gave me patience and an eye for how light sits on water and weathered wood. In a Portland sail loft where fog rolls in most mornings, I work on harbors, marsh grasses and quiet shorelines with loose brushwork and knife passes. The haze does the rest.
