Dwight Ambrose
“My studio is an old sail loft in Portland, Maine, where the fog rolls in most mornings. I spent years as a boatyard carpenter, and it taught me patience and how light sits on water and weathered wood. I paint harbors, marsh grasses and quiet shorelines with loose brushwork and light knife passes, letting the haze do most of the talking.”
About Dwight
Dwight Ambrose paints from an old sail loft in Portland, Maine, where fog drifts in off the water most mornings. Before he turned to the easel, he spent years as a boatyard carpenter. That work taught him patience, and it trained his eye on the way light settles on still water and weathered planks. He later took studio courses at Maine College of Art, and he brings that same steady craftsmanship to every canvas.
Working in oil on linen-textured canvas, Dwight paints harbors, marsh grasses and quiet shorelines. His style moves between Impressionism and Realism. Loose brushwork and light palette-knife passes give the surfaces texture, and soft coastal haze carries much of the mood. His calm, muted scenes suit living rooms, bedrooms and reading nooks, and they feel at home in entryways and coastal-style spaces where you want a quiet breath of sea air. Below are Ambrose’s canvases in our shop, ready to hang.
