About the Artwork

Brett Ostrander painted this tabby kitten at the exact moment it realized the plan had a flaw. It has squeezed itself into a big round yellow mug, fluffy body puffed over the rim, both front paws hooked on the edge and those wide green eyes staring up for help. This kitten in a mug painting gets the whole story across with one look.

The style is contemporary pop art with real paint texture. Thick black outlines hold everything together, while the fur is built from quick strokes of cream, mint and soft pink. Behind it, a hot pink wall meets a bright blue backdrop in loose, dragged brushwork, and an orange handle and a deep blue shadow finish the scene. It is colorful animal wall art that still feels hand-made up close.

This is for cat people, coffee people, and anyone who likes a little humor on the walls. If you collect whimsical animal wall art or want a gift that gets an instant laugh, this kitten does the job without trying too hard.

Hang this canvas wall art by the coffee maker as funny kitchen wall art, or give a small powder room some personality with funny bathroom wall art that guests will remember. It works anywhere you want fun canvas wall art with bold color and a lot of charm.

I work in a bright warehouse studio in Omaha's Old Market. Designing cereal boxes taught me that a shape has about two seconds to grab you from a shelf. I mix candy-bright colors in big jars, roll them on in flat fields with no brushwork showing, then hold the whole composition together with crisp black bands and outlines.
