About the Artwork

This cherry blossom tree canvas is all about the trunk. Vivian Hale built it from thick palette-knife strokes of teal, violet, ochre and black that twist upward like rope, splitting into dark branches that spread into a huge crown of magenta and pink blossom. Bright orange patches flicker through the petals, and thin drips run down from the canopy toward the ground.

Behind it, the sky is a loud electric blue, scraped and layered so you can see every pass of the knife. The horizon is laid in sweeps of gold, purple and rust. It reads as an old tree you might find on a hillside, painted with the energy of someone who couldn't wait to get the color down.

It suits anyone who loves cherry blossom art prints but wants something bolder than a soft pastel branch. If you've been browsing cherry blossom framed art and found it all a bit quiet, this one has real texture and heat, and it's an original work by one of our painters.

As canvas wall art, it holds its own above a sofa, at the end of a hallway or across from the bed where the blue and magenta can catch morning light. It pairs well with white walls, warm wood and eclectic rooms that already lean toward color.

The light hitting the water at Cliff Walk during my lunch breaks from the locksmith shop made me curious about painting. Started with small canvases in my garage, trying to capture those fleeting afternoon moments by the ocean.
