About the Artwork

Russell Ackerman painted this rainbow standing up instead of lying across the sky. Five bands of rust, mustard, blush pink, sage and sand stack inside each other and stretch tall, like a doorway made of colour. Each band is laid down in one long brushed stroke, and the ends trail off in dry, feathered edges where the paint ran thin.

The ground is a soft cream with a faint linen texture, so the whole piece feels quiet and handmade. It's a boho rainbow canvas that leans on earth tone wall art colours rather than bright primaries, with that rust outer arch giving it the warmth of terracotta wall art without shouting.

This is for anyone pulling together boho wall decor that feels calm and grown-up. If you like modern boho wall art with a little wabi sabi wall art spirit, the visible brush lines and uneven edges will suit you. It works just as well in a nursery as it does in a living room.

The tall shape fits narrow walls, a spot beside a doorway, or the space above a dresser. Pair it with linen, rattan and wood, or let it soften a plain white room. As canvas wall art, it brings a gentle burnt orange wall art accent to beige walls and neutral bedding.

I leave out the chimney, the bricks, even the fire. Only the arch stays. As a chimney sweep I cleaned hearths and saw how soot and firelight shape the color of a room. In the back room of a brick row house in Hudson, I stack rust and mustard curves over pale cream. Each holds some fireside comfort.
