About the Artwork
Row after row of scalloped arcs stack up like a stylized sea, each one pressed into place with a palette knife. Derek Holt lays the paint on thick in black, bone white and pale gray, then drags the knife across each ridge so the layer underneath shows through. Drips run down from the bottom row and from a corner of the bare top, which keeps the whole thing loose and honest.
This is bathroom black and white art with real surface to it. Up close you see every swirl and scrape, and from across the room it reads as a calm, rhythmic pattern. It sits comfortably as wabi sabi wall art, where the drips and uneven edges are part of the charm rather than something to hide.
It suits anyone who likes a quiet, neutral abstract wall art piece that still has texture and weight. Fans of japandi wall art and black and white geometric wall art will find the repeating arcs and restrained palette easy to live with.
Hang this canvas wall art above a freestanding tub, beside a stone vanity or in a narrow entryway where the vertical format fits nicely. The black and gray tones pair well with matte black fixtures, warm wood and linen towels.

Materials & Craft
Printed and hand-stretched in the USA, then shipped ready to hang.
The knife goes in loaded, and I drag it until the oil stands up in a ridge, then scrape the edge back clean. That is the same push and pull I used with a steel trowel as a concrete finisher. I keep to black, white and greys, and let thin drips run down loose backgrounds.
This canvas exceeded my expectations. The lion and its reflection are beautifully captured, and the quality of the print is superb. It adds a strong, motivational vibe to my room. I get compliments on it all the time!
Thrilled with the quality, the colors and the prompt delivery. Very impressed with this beautiful artwork! Just what this space needed! Will definitely do business with this company again! My clients loved it!! Thank you!!
