Abstract Staircase Painting with Floating Rust Treads - Canvas Wall Art

This abstract staircase painting by Kelsey Morgan keeps things simple and steep. Cantilevered treads seem to float straight out of a bone-white plaster wall, each one a single slab of rust and golden ochre with a crisp black shadow wedge tucked underneath. They climb from the lower right corner toward the top left, and the rhythm of light step, dark shadow, light step pulls your eye up the whole canvas.

Kelsey built every tread with the knife, so this reads as a true palette knife abstract painting up close. The edges are ridged and scraped, the wall behind is layered with chalky cream, soft gray and thin drips of ochre running down. It's textured abstract wall art that looks like weathered plaster and old metal at the same time, without fussing over detail.

It suits anyone drawn to architecture, quiet rooms and earth tone abstract wall art that doesn't shout. The palette of cream, rust and charcoal makes it neutral textured wall art that works with wood, linen, leather and stone, and the terracotta warmth of the treads keeps it from feeling cold.

The tall format makes this skinny vertical wall art a natural fit beside an actual staircase, on a narrow hallway wall, or flanking a doorway. Hung as stairway wall art, it echoes the climb. In an entry or reading corner, this canvas wall art adds height and a slow, steady sense of movement.
